2023 Celebration Reception

NSAL-DC hosted a celebration reception at the City Tavern Club in Georgetown, Washington, DC on June 14, 2023. Chapter members and guests were treated to the chapter’s 2023 musical and fine arts winners.  Fine arts winners were introduced to the audience while their winning works scrolled by on a screen. A Winston Classical Voice winner, Chase Cote, performed for the audience as well as Drama winner Corbin Ford.

Sue Hamilton, Leadership Team Secretary, welcomed NSAL-DC members and guests.  Treasurer Ron Ivey presented a report on the chapter’s activities and finances and encouraged participants to visit the newly designed website.

Celia Josephs, chair of the visual arts competitions, spoke about the winners of the Winston Art Scholarships and the Frank Wright Art Awards while slides of the winners’ works were projected on a screen.

Patrick Kilbride, chair of the vocal competition, spoke and introduced chapter winner Chase Cote who then sang two operatic works.

Chase is from Mount Airy, Maryland, and is currently a rising senior at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Chase is the 2nd prize winner of the NSAL-DC Shirley Rabb Winston Scholarship competition. In the summer of 2023 Chase will be the Hattie Mae Lesley Foundation Emerging Artist with the Seagle Festival. Past productions include Così fan tutte with Opera Delaware, covering the role of Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, and singing the role of Junius in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, both with Temple University Opera.

Corbin Ford performed a soliloquy from Shakespeare’s King Lear.

Corbin has studied at Pepperdine University. He has acting credits in various theaters in Washington, DC and Chicago and represented the NSAL-DC chapter at the national competitions held in Lexington, Kentucky in May 2023.
