NSAL Writing Scholarships

The NSAL Writing Scholarships in Short Story are annual scholarships available through the National Society of Arts and Letters to young writers ages 16 to 22.

Successful applicants must demonstrate exceptional talent and promise of future success. The scholarship funds are for private study, special training, or personal advancement. The funds can be used for college tuition, but not for housing, travel or personal expenses.

 
 

The 2026 NSAL Writing Scholarship Information & Application

The National Society of Arts and Letters, Washington, DC Chapter invites writers ages 16-22 to apply for the 2026 Writing Scholarship. The DC Chapter will award $2000, $1500 and $1000 to its 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. The DC chapter will submit our top one or two winners to National where an additional $10,000 in scholarships will be awarded.  Applications are due to the chapter competition chair by February 1, 2026 and please contact her if you have any questions.
