The Winston Scholarships

in

Art and Voice

A total of $10,000 will be awarded in each category

Maximum scholarship of $5,000 per applicant

The Winston Art and Voice Scholarships, along with the National Career Awards, are competitions for monetary awards to assist young artists.  The Winston Art and Voice Scholarships are competitions which begin at the local chapter level with the winners in both the Art and Voice competitions going on to compete at the national level.  The competitions are adjudicated by locally and nationally known men and women in the arts.  Designed for artists between the ages of 16 and 22, they afford young people throughout the United States the opportunity to be heard and seen by professional critics, managers, producers, teachers, the media, and patrons of the arts.

The scholarship funds are only for private study, for special training, or for personal advancement in the applicant's art medium.  They can be used for workshops, museum programs, summer programs, etc.  The funds are not for college tuition, housing, or travel.  Applicants must demonstrate exceptional talent and promise of future success.

We would like to offer a special thank you to

Bobbie Godridge

for her $1,000 donation in support of our local Winston program.

Kellie Alison Motter

Originally from Johns Creek, GA, Kellie is a 21-year-old junior majoring in voice performance at the University of Maryland School of Music.  She was a competitor for the Winston in 2012 and performed at NSAL’s May Awards Meeting and 2012 Viennese Ball in November.  Kellie plans to apply scholarship money to attend a music festival in Rome, or a summer class at Brevard Music Center or Chautauqua Music Institute.

Madeline Ann Himelfarb

Madi is a 17-year-old high school junior at Maret School.  She studies opera but especially enjoys musical theater.  She is hopeful she will receive scholarship money so she may attend Northwestern University’s Musical Theatre summer program.  In January, she participated in the NSAL Musical Theatre Mock Audition and Master Class.  Madi will be recognized for outstanding performance in the Musical Theater discipline at the 2013 NSAL Award for Excellence in the Arts Ceremony in April at the Kennedy Center.

Kellie and Madi will represent Washington DC in the National Winston Scholarship Competition.
