NSAL celebrated its fourth Viennese Ball on November 10, 2012 in the newly restored Beaux-Arts era rococo style ballroom at Washington's elegant Cosmos Club. The evening began with a seated candlelight dinner. The Ball commenced with the Grande Marche to Johann Strauss' Radetzky March, led by the Austrian Embassys Deputy Chief of Mission Sigurd Pacher and Tanzmeisters Herbert and Carol Traxler. Elegant dresses swirled as guests enjoyed waltzes, polkas, foxtrots, and tangos to the music of the con brio! Salon Ensemble. A much needed orchestra break was the perfect time to treat our guest to superior performances by our 2011 and 2012 Washington DC Chapter Winston Voice Scholarship Winners, followed by an inviting Viennese dessert buffet. Later, guests were delighted to receive instructions in Die Fledermaus Quadrille by the Traxlers before actually dancing it to the live music. As is the tradition in Vienna, the evening came to a rousing close with Johann Strauss' beloved waltz, Blaue Donau!
Shall We Dance? Viennese Waltz Lessons
NSAL offered a series of three exciting Waltz Lessons with Drs. Herbert and Carol Traxler at the convenient, metro-accessible Harbour Square condominium building. The venue is on the top floor with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the beautiful Potomac River and a comfortable wood parquet floor offering over 2,000 square feet of continuous dance space. ______________________

Winston Voice Scholarship Chair Carla Jones-Batka (left) pooled the talent of our fabulous Washington DC Chapter winners for the nights entertainment. (Left to right) 2011 Winner Rebecca Hargrove, 2012 Winner Kellie Motter, Piano Accompanist Joanna Jones, 2012 Winner Jeremy Hirsch, Viennese Ball Chair Martie Goebel, and Piano Accompanist Alberto Peρa.
Soprano Rebecca Hargrove was in character as Musetta from the aria Quando m'en vo in Puccinis opera La Bohθme.
Our guests fell in love with Bass-Baritone Jeremy Hirsch as he sang a Lied composed by Franz Schubert, Wandrers Nachtlied II.
And hearts were captured by Soprano Kellie Motter who charmed the audience as the mechanical doll who occasionally needed to be rewound in Les oiseaux dans la charmille from Les Contes d'Hoffman by Jacques Offenbach.
Viennese Ball Chair Martie Goebel greeted our guests.
Washington DC Chapter President Celia Josephs and her husband Julian Josephs enjoyed dinner by candlelight.
Greetings from our National NSAL President Catriona Tudor Erler and her husband Jim Erler during the Grande Marche.
