NSAL’s Washington Chapter held its Second Annual Broadway Mock Auditions and Master Class in the Rehearsal Room for The Eisenhower Theater at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, February 5, 2011

Once again, a panel of four Broadway artists and industry professionals posed first as “Auditioners” and later as “Master Teachers” in order to provide valuable insight into the world of musical theater auditions for the Broadway stage.  Participating students from the 10th grade in high school through seniors in college auditioned in three categories: dance, singing, and drama.  As dancers, the students were taught a short jazz combination and then promptly required to perform in small groups.  As singers, the students were charged with singing two sixteen-bar excerpts from a Broadway musical, one Up Tempo and one Ballade, in Broadway classic style.  Then as actors, the students paired with one another to perform a scene from The Music Man.

The Washington Chapter is planning to continue holding similar Mock Auditions and Master Classes on an annual basis to help young actors in their future careers and to encourage them to take part in the 2012 NSAL Career Award Competition in Musical Theater.
