Broadway Mock Audition Master Class

GENERAL INFORMATION

Each year a panel of distinguished musical theatre and Broadway professionals conduct a mock Broadway audition and later function as master teachers to provide valuable insight into the world of Broadway. Students prepare to audition in all three categories of musical theatre: dancing, singing, and acting.

As part of the singing portion of the audition, students are asked to perform two, sixteen-bar excerpts from a Broadway musical, one an up tempo number, the other a classic Broadway ballad. Students select these pieces themselves and prepare them in advance.  For dance, a master choreographer teaches the students a short jazz combination, which they then are called upon to perform in small groups.  During the acting portion students are paired to cold read and perform a scene from a musical the panel has selected.

The master class concludes with feedback from the teachers, including a question and answer segment. Included also are individual and group critiques with the goal of preparing students for Broadway auditions.
